标题: US Denies It Knew of ROC Flag-Raising [打印本页] 作者: choi 时间: 1-6-2015 09:41 标题: US Denies It Knew of ROC Flag-Raising William Lowther, US Denies It Knew of ROC Flag-Raising. Taipei Times, Jan 7, 2015 (available now). www.taipeitimes.com/News/front/archives/2015/01/07/2003608644
Quote:
(a) "Representative to the US Shen Lyu-shun (沈呂巡) was quoted following the flag-raising ceremony as saying he had notified the administration of US President Barack Obama in advance and was granted permission to raise the flag as long as it was not widely publicized.
"The Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office (TECRO) in Washington referred questions about Psaki’s reaction to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Taipei.
(b) "Sources [unidentified] who closely monitor the Taiwan-US relationship told the Taipei Times on Monday they were 'very surprised' by the State Department statement because it seemed 'inconceivable' that TECRO would raise the flag without US permission.
My comment:
(a) I have never liked the ROC flag--or anything about ROC, for that matter. Needless to say, I myself would not have done that (showing that flag).
(b) "The reporter then asked: 'If I raise the flag of Narnia over my house, that’s going to be inconsistent with US policy?'”

cites Taipei Times, paragraphing the quotation (a) above. The AP title hints doubt about US proclamation. But there is no need to read the AP report, which does not add more to the issues.
