My comment:
(a) They (these China's teachers) are silly. Ask people (foreigners and Americans) in US, and they will tell you education in US is excellent, but student performances are poor (in every measurement, even among whites ) because the good are drowned out in statistics -- the cream of the crop of US education lies in higher education, which is head and shoulder above the rest of the world. Maybe the same in UK (though its higher education is pre-eminent). Many things in this life are contrarian, so I accept it without quarrel.
