标题: Hong Kong Port's Container Volume in 2015 Drops one place, to World's 5th
(1) According to Hong Kong Port Development Council 香港港口發展局
http://www.pdc.gov.hk/eng/home/index.htm
, a government agency, container throughput of Hong Kong Port 香港港口的貨櫃吞吐量 (consisting of 葵青貨櫃碼頭 and 葵青貨櫃碼頭以外) for 2015 was 20,080,000 containers or minus 9.7% compared with that of 2014. In this aspect (containers), Hong Kong Port dropped to the fifth in the world (from the fourth in 2014). With regard to container throughput, thus Hong Long in 2015 was overtaken by Ningbo-Zhoushan, which had been No 5 in 2014.

According to the same agency, the 2014 ranking of top ten container ports of the world is: Shanghai (No 1)> Singapore> Shenzhen > Hing Kong > Ningbo-Zhoushan > Busan (No 6)> Qingdao > Guangzhou > Dubai > Tianjin (No 10).

(2) Joanne Chiu, Hong Kong's Port Falls Further; Deep-water rivals in mainland China hit container business at former trade leader. Wall Street Journal, Feb 17, 2016.
("Hong Kong port's container "Volume has fallen for 18 straight months, as ships skip the city's crowded cargo terminals in favor of newer facilities in mainland China * * * The slide is partly a symptom of China's economic slowdown. But the reasons for Hong Kong's tumbling trade volume run deeper: Ports outside cities such as Shenzhen, Shanghai and Ningbo can unload cargo faster and cheaper, and are closer to China's manufacturing zones. The new class of megaships also are too big to fit into Hong Kong's shallow channels fully loaded, but can enter deep-water ports along the Chinese coastline with ease")

My comment: There is no need to read the rest, which is about How Hong Kong plans a comeback.
