(b) "The most powerful of Japan's surface combatants are the Kongō class of guided-missile destroyers 護衛艦. The four ships—Kongō [named after Mount Kongō 金剛山, at Osaka Prefecture 大阪府], Kirishima 霧島 [named after 霧島山], Myōkō [named after 妙高山] and Chōkai [named after 鳥海山, where chō is Chinese pronunciation of kanji 鳥]—are all named after battleships and cruisers of the Imperial Japanese Navy, a practice once generally avoided but becoming more popular as the memory of World War II fades. * * * It also provides a national ballistic-missile defense system for all of Japan—just two Kongōs can protect most of the country."
(c) "Another formidable Japanese ship is the JS Izumo. * * * Izumo 出雲 [named for Izumo Province 出雲国] can't carry fixed-wing fighter jets but it can carry up to fourteen helicopters * * * A second ship of the class, Kaga, is currently under construction."
(d) "Finally, Japan has three Osumi-class tank landing ships. * * * They are equipped with well decks and American-designed LCAC hovercraft, allowing them to float out heavy equipment and sent them to shore."
(i) The lead ship of this three-ship Ōsumi class おおすみ型輸送艦 is Ōsumim named after Ōsumi Peninsula 大隅半島. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C5%8Csumi_Peninsula
