Stephen Decatur [Jr] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stephen_Decatur
(1779 – 1820; died in a duel; "Decatur emerged as a national hero in his own lifetime, becoming the first post-Revolutionary War hero. His name and legacy, like that of John Paul Jones, became identified with the United States Navy")
It is hard for me to understand, because he surrendered to British navy in War of 1812.
(b) "Having the Third Fleet regularly command vessels in Asia, which it has not done since World War Two, means the US Navy can better conduct simultaneous operations such as on the Korean peninsula and in the Philippines, said one of the sources, who is familiar with the goals of the reorganization."
United States Third Fleet https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Third_Fleet
("formed during World War II on 15 March 1943 under the command of Admiral William F Halsey. Its on-shore headquarters in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii was established on 15 June 1944 * * * from May 1945 to the end of the war, the battleship USS Missouri as its flagship"/ inactivated in October 1945 and re-established in 1973)
So the Third Fleet did not participate in Korean War.
(c) "US Pacific Fleet Commander Admiral Scott Swift last year signaled a wider role for the Third Fleet, when he said he was abolishing an administrative boundary along the international dateline that had separated the Third and Seventh fleets. Until then, Third Fleet vessels crossing the line came under Seventh Fleet command."
(i) US Pacific Fleet https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Pacific_Fleet
(theater-level; headquarters is at Pearl Harbor Naval Station, Hawaii; Pacific Fleet has authority of: numbered Third and Seventh Fleets. among other forces)
(ii) US has six numbered fleets: 3rd, 4th, 5th, 7th, 7th, and 10th. (There were, for example, 1st and 2nd fleets. Pacific Fleet obviously is not a numbered fleet.)
