("Stephen Yates, a fellow at the Heritage Foundation who is an adviser to Trump's transition, is in Taiwan and helped facilitate the call, according to a source familiar with the visit. Yates was an Asia adviser to former Vice President Dick Cheney and is very supportive of Taiwan")
"Since his election last month, they [policymakers in Beijing] have struggled to understand who is advising Donald Trump on Asia and what his China policy will look like. This move will turn concern into alarm and anger.
"When Donald Trump was asked during his campaign to name the person he consulted most often on foreign policy, he said: 'I'm speaking with myself, number one, because I have a very good brain and I've said a lot of things.' "
(3) It is said Trump's transition team Friday (Dec 2) issued a statement that said, "During the discussion, they noted the close economic, political, and security ties (existing) between Taiwan and the United States. President-elect Trump also congratulated President Tsai on becoming President of Taiwan earlier this year."
But I can not find it, although a Taiwanese news report in traditional Chinese said the statemnt appeared in the website of transition team (www.greatagain.gov), which was then deleted; yet I saw no evidence of it (no cache, for example).

Katie Gluck, Trump's Shadow Transition Team; The Heritage Foundation has emerged as a driving force as Trump tries to staff up the federal government. Politico, Nov 22, 2016. http://www.politico.com/story/20 ... e-foundation-231722
("Heritage, as a think tank, cannot engage in partisan campaign activity — it makes its research available to everyone, staffers stress — but that doesn’t mean its members can’t advise candidates on both political and policy matters")
