My comment:
(a) The lead author is teaching assistant Kazuya SAITŌ 斉藤 一哉 助教 of University of Tokyo.
(b) Japanese-English dictionary:
ten-tō-mushi《てんとう虫; 天道虫; 瓢虫》 【てんとうむし】 (n): "ladybug" (The "mushi" is Japanese pronunciation for 虫.)

(d) I read many news reports on this, none of which is helpful in visualization of wing folding. In my view, the best source is the figures and video (which can be better) of the paper itself. The link to the paper is on the top.

(i) There is no need to read the text.
(ii) Go to Figure 1 (C) to (G): the right column (sketch) corresponds to left column (a read ladybug).
In the right column, the bluish shield is a (right) elytron. The bigger bigger (right) hindwing will be folded underneath. Pay no attention to alphabet soup and all sorts of line (heavy or light) -- except the red (hollow) arrow.
In the left column, heed only the red solid arrow.
(iii) Go straight to Figure 3, where (A) shows how a hindwing folds, looking from abdomen of the ladybug to the back. In the rightmost panel, the back (grey in color) folded lengthwise.
In Figure 3(B), looks at the white dotted line only, whose orientation is different from that in 3(A).
Then The end of legend to Figure 3 kindly suggest "(also Movie S3).” Watch that video.
