Keith Bradsher and Jane Perlez, Shifts on Trade War (and Peace) by US Baffle Chinese Leaders. New York Times, Apr 13, 2018 (front page).
My comment:
(a) In the title, it is "trade peace," in contrast to trade war.
(b) "For the past few months, some of the most powerful men in China — allies of President Xi Jinping with longstanding ties and deep experience with the United States — have been casting about for a better understanding of Mr Trump and how to respond to his combative trade agenda, according to several people they have consulted."
is from the concept of casting a wide net.
(c) "Mr Liu [He], the vice premier in charge of the economy, who has master’s degrees from Seton Hall and Harvard."
I am surprised by the plural form of "master's degrees." He did not receive one fro Seton Hall University, did he. Both Chinese and English Wikipedia says he did not.
(d) To be fair, Chiese leadership is not the only one who is baffled. So are Americans, Europeans. So am I, I must confess. To me: Mr Trump is either a madman, a genius, or both. I often think about First Lady. Then again, I myself is misunderstood -- perhap by everybody else but myself. So, in a sense I can relate to Mr Trump.
I do not know how to rad this analysis. I first go to the website (www.ft.com) and search for it. Immediately I got it, which I read that day. But everything in the analysis is locked behind paywall. I google, and the analysis is not behind paywall, when I click the top result.
