Note:
(a) Chinese proper NAMES are from cn.nytimes.com.
(i) Jieyuan Village (甘肃省定西市通渭县黑燕山乡) 结元村
(ii) Youfang village (甘肃省定西市通渭县,马营镇) 油坊村
(iii) "At Tanyue Tongwei Clothing & Accessories Company 探越通渭服装服饰有限公司 [address: 甘肃省定西市通渭县平襄镇东川工业园区经一路] in southeastern Gansu, about 170 workers, mostly women, sewed school uniforms, T-shirts, down jackets and face masks."
(b) "Beijing poured almost $700 billion in loans and grants into poverty alleviation over the past five years — about 1 percent of each year's economic output."
"$700 billion * * * about 1 percent of each year's economic output." "Economic output" is another description for gross domestic product (GDP) --though admittedly economic output can be applied to a sublevels (such as state, city) of a nation. But Chin's GDP is not $70,000 billion or $70 trillion. So one should divide $70 trillion by "five years," and the resulting $14 trillion a year is current GDP of China.
(c) "Though many villages are still reachable only by single-lane roads, they [judging from context: roads, not villages] are lined with streetlights powered by solar panels.
