(1) John Garnaut, Signs from Shanghai. The Age (Melbourne), Feb. 1, 2010 (
available now).

My comment:
(a) The report does not mention Mr. Xi Jinping.
(b) The Age
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Age
(A liberal broadsheet daily newspaper, which has been published in Melbourne
, Australia since 1854. The Age currently has an average weekday circulation
of 196,250)
(c) It may be the first time, to my knowledge, that a commentator equates
Pres. Hu Jintao with the liberal wing of Chinese Communist Party.

(2) Geoff Dyer, Li takes limelight while succession race heats up. Financial
Times, Jan. 28, 2010.

My comment: I am still wondering why Mr. Xi was not anointed as vice
chairman of the CCP Central Military Commission.

Interesting. But I found it odd to juxtapose Hu and Liberal. Hu is leaning left, but no liberal at all.

We can take this as reading tea leaves. Nobody knows what is going on. I guess.
