My comment: It was reported Apr 19 (two days ago) that China invested $300m in SMIC in exchange for 11.6% equity. From commercial viewpoint, it would be bad money after good. But China has not choice. Last summer China built the fastest supercomputer in the world with chips from Intel and Nvidia. But national security does not allow use of foreign chips. Still, even if SMIC is up to job to make microprocessors (which I doubt), China does not have a DRAM maker.
