"Nokia’s chief executive has declared Android smartphones to be his main competitive target, in spite of data showing that Apple has overtaken the Finnish company to become the world’s biggest mobile phone maker by sales for the first time.

"Apple generated $11.9bn of wholesale revenues from its iPhone in the first quarter, compared with Nokia’s $9.4bn of handset sales, according to estimates by Strategy Analytics, a research company.

My comment:
(a) There is no need to estimate iPhone sales; Apple announced two days ago its quarterly data, including that of iPhone.

(In the latest quarter--the first 3 months of the year--iPhone sale revenue slightly > $12bn, unit volume ~17.3m, according to the bar charts)

(b) HTC started selling the smartphone Thunderbolt in mid-March in America. Firm data is yet to be released.

(2) Statement: Best Buy Launches Pre-sale of Wi-Fi HTC Flyer; The pre-sale begins April 25. Best Buy, Apr 22, 2011.

My comment:
(a) Flyer is a tablet, one of the first tablets in US from Taiwan. (Asus Eee Pad Transformer is selling The new price is Wi-Fi only version is $499, exactly the same as Wi-Fi only iPad. ASUS Eee Pad Transformer coming to US on April 26 for $399 and up. Both HTC and ASUS have slashed price about half on their way to US.
(b) The Flyer uses a stylus. I will wait and see the reception.
(c) I will also see if ASUS as well as Acer can make transition from makers of computers to mobile devices (tablets, smartphones).
