标题: Wendi Deng MURDOCH 邓文迪 [打印本页] 作者: choi 时间: 6-19-2012 16:10 标题: Wendi Deng MURDOCH 邓文迪 Amy Chozick, Declaration of Independence. NewYork Times, June 17, 2012 (front-page top article in the Sunday's Fashion and Style section). www.nytimes.com/2012/06/17/fashi ... eer-of-her-own.html
("After Liz Smith announced in The New York Post in 1998 that Mr. Murdoch and his wife of 31 years, Anna, had amicably separated, the company crafted a widely accepted narrative that Mr. Murdoch and Wendi Deng met later, after he and Anna were already separated, when Ms. Deng accompanied Mr. Murdoch on a trip to Beijing. In reality, they met months earlier during a town-hall-style session at Star TV, according to a person who was close to Mr. Murdoch at the time")
My comment:
(a) I do not understand why News Corp created the charade.
(b) The Scottish surname Murdch is from an Anglicized form of the Gaelic personal names Muire(adh)ach, a derivative of muir ‘sea’ (hence the usual translation as ‘mariner’) and Murchadh ‘sea battler’.
(c) The article said Barry Diller "worked for Mr Murdoch."
Barry Diller http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barry_Diller
(1942- ; From October 1984 to April 1992, he held the positions of Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Fox, Inc, parent company of Fox Broadcasting Company and 20th Century Fox)
Having purchased New York Post in 1976, Murdoch's "News Corporation acquired Twentieth Century Fox (1985)." Wikipedia

(e) Kathy Freston

(f) The Jewish (eastern Ashkenazic) surname Kushner is from Belorussian kushner ‘furrier’, a word of German origin (see Kurschner).
* Not to be confused with Kirchner, as in Néstor Kirchner
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Néstor_Kirchner
(1950-2010; president of Argetina 2003-2007)
The German surname Kirchner is from Middle High German kirchenaere ‘sexton.’ In pronunciation Kirchner (KEERchner) is also pronounced differently from Kurschner (KURshner).
(g) challah http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Challah
Due to its Hebrew origin, the pronunciation of ch differs from what we may expect from English. http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/challah
(g) The article stated, "Because Mrs Freston is a vegan, the caterers had assembled a meatless spread with tofu, quinoa and kale spun into elaborate hors d’oeuvres."
