标题: Toyota's Newest Car Plant
Micheline Maynard, Toyota, Mississippi. After a humbling fall, Japan's automotive titan rebuilds its manufacturing prowess in the unlikeliest of places. Forbes, July 16, 2012 (cover date; title in print).

My comment:
(a) I am unsure if this is a good report, mainly because I can not picture in my mind how Toyota makes cars in the latest plant. I can not find a video clip about the plant's operation. Trade secrets? I do not know.
(b)
(i) The female given name Micheline and surname Michelin (as in the tire maker) are both French--and the same root: from a pet form of Michel, French form of Michael.
(ii) Michael comes ultimately from Hebrew Micha-el ‘Who is like God?’

The above tow items are from Dictionary of American Family Names, Oxford University Press.
(c) The report says, "The $800 million plant—the most advanced of all 65 the company owns or operates worldwide—sits atop the red, clay-rich soil of Blue Springs, Miss., 20 minutes from Elvis’ birthplace."

(i) Blue Springs, Mississippi
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blue_Springs,_Mississippi
(ii) Elvis Presley
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elvis_Presley
(1935-1977; born in Tupelo, Mississippi)

(d) The surname Copenhaver is probably an Americanized spelling of German Kobenhauer, an occupational name for a cooper.
(e) The report says of the plant: "you'd expect it to be the usual salmagundi of noise that a typical plant creates."

(i) salmagundi (n; French salmigondis):
"1: a salad plate of chopped meats, anchovies, eggs, and vegetables arranged in rows for contrast and dressed with a salad dressing
2: a heterogeneous mixture : POTPOURRI"
www.m-w.com
(ii) Check photos in images.google.com. En.wikipedia.oprg does not have a photo under "salmagundi."

(f) The report mentions "what Toyota calls 'bias assembly' (borrowed from the bias seam going down the side of a fitted dress or nipped-in suit jacket)."

(i) Regarding "bias."
(A) bias (texture)

(B) How to make a bias cut skirt with wide stretch waistband. Instructable.com. Undated.
http://www.instructables.com/id/ ... h-wide-stretch-wai/
("Step 1 Bias cut - what and why[:] Bias cut means to cut the fabric in a way that when the garment is finished the grain hangs diagonal, rather than straight up and down")
(C) What is a "bias seam" then?

("The waistband gaps pretty bad, and the zipper is pretty lumpy since it is in a bias seam")

(ii) Regarding "nipped-in suit jacket."
(A) For suit jacket, see suit (clothing)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suit_(clothing)
(In clothing, a suit is a set of garments made from the same cloth, consisting of at least a jacket and trousers)
(B) NYPL Digital Gallery.

(sketch caption: "Image ID: 1949682  [Fitted coat with nipped in waist and oval patch pockets.] (Sep 11 1939)")
(C) nip (vt; Middle English nippen; akin to Middle Dutch nipen to pinch):
"1a: to catch hold of and squeeze tightly between two surfaces, edges, or points : PINCH, BITE <the dog nipped his ankle>
b: to pinch in (as a garment) <a dress nipped at the waist>"
http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/nip

It is definition 1b in this context.
