(c) 蕭 is pronounced exactly the same in Guangdong and southern Fujian (and thus Taiwan)--as opposed to that in Mandarin. There are various spelling in Cantonese area (Canton, Hong Kong and occasionally oversea Chinese): 蕭志美 (Anna Sui, a US fashion designer born in 1964 in Detroit), Siu and Shiu. The first vice president of Mr MA Ying-jiou is Vicent Siew 蕭萬長.
