(a) riparian (adj): "relating to or living or located on the bank of a
natural watercourse (as a river)" www.m-w.com
(b) I was a bit surprised by the phrase "Tibet's unresolved political status
," which I had not seen before. I then glanced at the bottom for author's
affiliation. It turns out that he is Indian.
(2) Adrian Higgins, Harvard biologist comes to the defense of the much
reviled tree of heaven. Washington Post, p. A7, June 14, 2010.

My comment: I did not see it back in Taiwan. The tree is everywhere in
greater Boston area. Until today I did not know it originates from China.
