Diane Cardwell, Trade Fight Over Solar Benefits a Bystander; A loophole in a tariff ruling lights a fire under Taiwan’s industry. New York Times, July 31, 2013.
My comment: This report does not explain the advantages photovoltaic industry of Taiwan enjoys, or why solar panel makers from China will invest in Taiwan, rather than other places. Until around five years ago, photovoltaic industry of Japan produced the most, followed by Taiwan. China leapfrogged, becoming No 1. China was accused of unfair practice to aid its photovoltaic industry, but not Taiwan. How the industry of Taiwan achieves the feat, I never know (because American media has not reported it). Furthermore, TSMC Solar, an arm of TSMC, will soon start commercial production of Copper indium gallium (di)selenide (CIGS) thin-film module.
