("As a friend of both Taiwan and China, the United States wishes to see a reduction of tensions and the pursuit of closer ties and benefits for the people on the both sides, he[Ben Rhodes, Deputy National Security Advisor for strategic communications] said in response to suggestions about a meeting between Ma and Xi, during a press briefing in Washington. Such a meeting would obviously have to be agreed on by both sides, he said")

My comment: Yes it is a mere empty talk. But what can he say? It is a hypothetical question. I personally do not see a meet-up happening. My view is the one who poses the question is an idiot.
