(1) Yesterday I penned an exhibition review. Note(b)(i) was

"Nazi Germany
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nazi_Germany
(1933-1945; Population: 1939 est. 69,314,000 [likely including those of occupied areas])"

(2) I was somewhat right, somewhat wrong: Poland was not included, but some occupied (and definitely annexed) regions were included. Also, it was not an estimation; a census was conducted in 1939. Last not not least, in 1939 Germany's population was 79m (officially), not 69m.

The "79" figure is correct, because the Wiki page itself (see (i)) cites footnote 1 to support "69." Footnote 1 points to

"'Statistisches Jahrbuch für die Bundesrepublik Deutschland" (in German). Statistisches Bundesamt. 2006. p 34"

of section 13 Bibliography of the same Wiki page--which says "79" in 1939.
(3) History of Germany
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_Germany

In section 8 Weimar Republic, there is a map whose caption is "Germany 1919–1938" which did NOT incorporate Sudetenland (in present-day Czech Republic).

(4) Census in Germany
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Census_in_Germany
(section 3 1871 - 1945 German Reich: the 1939 census now also included the areas of Austria, Sudetenland and Memelland)

Date .................Area in km2 .............Population ........Area Changes
Dec 1, 1871 ......541.561 ...................        41.058.792
May 17, 1939 ....583.370 ...................79.375.281
Oct 29, 1946 .....353.460 ...................65.137.274 .......since 1945 without Ostgebiete [qv] des Deutschen Reiches

(b) Click “Ostgebiete” in the section 3 table, and you reach

former eastern territories of Germany
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Former_eastern_territories_of_Germany
(east of the current eastern border of Germany (the Oder–Neisse line))

, one map of which is captioned “Border changes in history of Poland” (heed 1939 and 1945 borders).
(i) German English dictionary
* Ost (noun masculine): “the east”
en.wiktionary.org/wiki/Ost
* Gebiet (noun neuter, plural: gebiete): “area, territory”
en.wiktionary.org/wiki/Gebiet

(ii) “The beginning of World War II was marked by the Nazi German invasion of Poland on Sept 1, 1939, followed by the Soviet invasion of Poland on Sept 17 in violation of the Soviet–Polish Non-Aggression Pact.” Wikipedia

(5) Historical Background in section Population of Chapter 3 The Society and Its Environment (David E McClave), of the book Germany; A country study. Federal Research Division of the Library of Congress, 1996
countrystudies.us/germany/84.htm
("Following the annexation of Austria in 1938 and the Sudetenland (part of Czechoslovakia) in 1939, German territory and population encompassed 586,126 square kilometers and 79.7 million people, according to the 1939 census")
(6) I fail to find Sudetenland population (in 1939 or otherwise). However I do have Austria’s.
