Juro Osawa, China’s Tech Giants Spawn Startups; Tencent, Alibaba, Baidu are launching pads for a growing numbers of entrepreneurs. Wall Street Journal, Apr 15, 2015.

Excerpt in the window of print: ‘Finding an investor isn’t difficult if you are from Tencent,’ says Wang Xinwen of Lilith.

My comment:
(a) "Venture-capital investments in China's tech sector more than doubled to $6 billion last year from $2.8 billion in 2013, according to Hong Kong-based AVCJ Research, with both foreign and domestic funds putting in more money than the prior year."

About Us. AVCJ, undated

("AVCJ Group is the leading source of information on Asian private equity, venture capital and mergers and acquisitions * * * AVCJ was originally founded in 1987")

Based in Hong Kong, AVJC stands for Asian Venture Capital Journal 亚洲创业投资期刊.

(b) The cn.wsj.com translates the next paragraph AFTER the above quotation, but basically that is it (except (e) below).

The first paragraph in the English original that is not translated:  “Mr Chen’s Mogujie, which means, ‘Mushroom Street,’ got its start from Andrew Teoh, an investor who quit his job as a deals executive at Alibaba in 2011 to cofound Ameba Capital 阿米巴資本 [2011- ; traditional Chinese , because it is based in Hong Kong]. Mr Teoh picked the site [Mogujie] as the fund’s first investment after visiting Mr Chen’s apartment in the Eastern City of Hangzhou, where Alibaba is based.”
(i) Andrew TEOH  趙鴻 was born in Malaysia.
(ii) Malaysian Chinese

(a Malaysian journalist)
(B) Jason Teoh  张秀福

(C) Teoh
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Teoh
(" is a romanization of Teochew and Minnan names [note the plural forms of 'name'], including [but not limited to] 张 or 張 (p[inyin:] Zhāng, or Chang). It is also rendered as Tiu, Teo, Tio, Thio, and Tiew")

(d) "Annabelle Long, managing partner of venture-capital firm Bertelsmann Asia Investments, a major investor in Mogujie, says entrepreneurs who come from Alibaba, Tencent and Baidu are often already financially secure, so they can afford to pursue their own ideas."

(e) "Some are taking risks even without a safety net. In early 2013, Wang Xinwen 王信文 and two colleagues who had been developing games at Tencent quit* * * to start their own business, called Lilith Games 莉莉丝. * * Lilith Games hired some of its employees through a Tencent alumni organization called Nan Ji Quan 南极圈, which means 'Antarctic Circle'—a reference to Tencent’s penguin mascot.  Founded in 2010 by former Tencent human resources manager Pan Guohua 潘国华, Nan Ji Quan now has nearly 20,000 members across China. Inspired by Silicon Valley’s Y Combinator, Nan Ji Quan aims to help its members’ startups through mentoring and seed money while taking a small stake in them."
(i) Lilith
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lilith
("In Jewish folklore" Lilith is the first woman, before Eve; section 1 Etymology)
(ii) If you google Lilith Games, ost are not about the Chinese company but about Japanese manga showing a woman in different shape and form.
