Note:
(a) photo caption: "An attendee looks at an altar on display at the Life Ending Industry Expo in Tokyo, Japan, on Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2015. The exhibition of equipment, products, and services for funeral, burial and memorial services runs through Dec. 10. Photographer: Tomohiro Ohsumi/Bloomberg©Bloomberg"

2015 Life Ending Industry Expo (ENDEX)  第一屆日本東京生命禮儀展  (This explains a clause in the text: "An unprecedented funeral trade fair in Tokyo in December.")
(b) "Japan's Y2tn funeral business"

It is the way Financial Times shortens "two trillion yen."
(c) "The country’s rapidly ageing population puts occupancies at the nation's mortuaries on course to peak at 1.67m in 2040."

About "mortuary." Americans use "funeral home."
(d) "Driving down the attendance rates, though, has been the disappearance of the 'duty attendee.' "

I fail to find the Japanese term.
(e) "Yū-ichi NORO 野呂 裕一, president 社長 of the country's largest funeral management group San Holdings 燦ホールディングス [the katakana is for 'holdings']"
