Note:
(a) "He [Jin Xing 金星 (1967- )] won fame in America, where the New York Times called him 'a Chinese genius.' "
(i) In the entire Web and the New York Times website (www.nytimes.com), there is nothing to indicate the Times, or any other source, ever says that ("Jin Xing" as "Chinese genius"). The only one in that newspaper that mentions "Jin Xing" and "genius" is

Anna Kisselgoff, In Modern Dance, Reflections Of a Restless China in Flux. New York Times, Feb 8, 2005

(Charles Reinhart, the American Dance Festival's director: "The idea was to provide them with modern dance training and let them run with it to develop their own genius")
(ii) This is further debunked when China Daily quoted the same newspaper as saying Jin was "a genius" -- rather than "a Chinese genius." Which suggests enither term went through the rigor of fact checking.

Chen Jie, Pushing the Boundaries. China Daily, Jan 19, 2010

(b) He had "a sex-change operation. As a woman, she resumed her career as a ballerina, set up the country's first private ballet company 上海金星舞蹈团 [1999- ], ran a bar in Beijing and married a German businessman"

Her husband (since 2005) is Heinz-Gerd Oidtmann, who is a year younger than she.

(c) "her life would seem to place Ms Jin well outside the stodgy mainstream of Chinese broadcasting (she is pictured at her home in Shanghai). Yet Ms Jin, who is 49, is the country's most popular television judge. She began with a local version 舞林争霸 of 'So You Think You Can Dance' and hit the jackpot with 'The Jin Xing Show 金星秀,' a variety and chat programme with an audience of around 100m. She has appeared with her husband on the Chinese version of 'The Amazing Race,' in which couples race each other around the world. Her latest venture, 'Chinese Dating 中國式相親,' is in its first season. * * * During her surgery, an oxygen shortage damaged her left leg [from the Web: 手术中一条小腿被压了16个小时] so badly that doctors thought she would be lucky to walk again. Gruelling retraining enabled her to resume dancing within a year. * * * her memoir, 'Shanghai Tango' [半梦; 金星自传. 中信出版社,2005]"
