(a) Tammy La Gorce, 新郎、新娘,和 '房间里的大象.' 纽约时报中文网, Aug 28, 2017
https://cn.nytstyle.com/style/20 ... 13847464.1504048265
, which is translated from
Tammy La Gorce, Vows: The Bride, the Groom and the Elephant in the Room. New York Times, Aug 27, 2017.
https://www.nytimes.com/2017/08/ ... -cynthia-zhou-.html
(The groom, Marc Wallack, is 72 and the bride, Cynthia Zhou, 27. They met in 2014)
My comment:
(a) The bride's hometown is Shrewsbury, Massachusetts, that is on the eastern border of City of Worcester.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shrewsbury,_Massachusetts
(named for Shrewsbury, England)
(b) Often the wedding announcements in New York Times ignores "elephants," such as age difference (bride is 15 years older, say). At long last, NYT addresses the issue.
(c) "At a reception in the hotel's grand ballroom, Dr Wallack's friend and best man, Devon Reiff, a trial lawyer, toasted the couple with scant mention of age. But just before the wedding he privately acknowledged the sea of doubters. 'The predominant reaction from everyone I know has been shock,' he said. 'People just go: This is impossible, it's ridiculous, it’s only going to last two or three years."
I do not think the marriage would last merely 2 or 3 years. (Life expectancy in US at 72: 15.0 years for men and 15.95 for women, of all races combined.)
(2) Jessica Rice, Charles Parr. New York Times, Aug 27, 2017 (under the heading "Weddings" among various couples)
https://www.nytimes.com/2017/08/ ... e-charles-parr.html
(The bride "is a second-year internal medicine resident at the University of Colorado, from which she received a medical degree. * * * Mr. Parr, 32, is a professional fly fishing guide based in Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado")
(3) Rosalie Love, Mark Weng. New York Times, July 30, 2017
https://www.nytimes.com/2017/07/ ... love-mark-weng.html
(Rosalie Elizabeth Love, 24, and Dr Mark K Weng, 33)
My comment:
(a) "She graduated from King's College London * * * He graduated summa cum laude from Georgia Institute of Technology, received a master's degree in health policy, planning and financing conferred jointly from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and the London School of Economics and Political Science, and received his medical degree from Emory University [in 2013]. * * * The bride and groom met in 2011 [she was 18 and he 27], when both were students in London.
What puzzles me is how he (hometown: Savannah, Georgia) could go to London to get a master's, while he was in Atlanta to study medicine.
(b) "Dr Weng, 33 and a pediatrician, is a lieutenant commander in the United States Public Health Service, and serves in Atlanta as an epidemic intelligence service officer at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention."

(c) Do not be jealous. This photo is a portrait, shot by a professional photographer. I have found a recent photo of Dr Weng online, who looks a bit chubby.
