(a) "The Vatican has already asked Guo Xijin, the underground bishop in Mindong, to yield his leadership of an estimated 70,000 Catholics to a government-appointed cleric who commands about 10,000 followers — a huge concession to Beijing.

(ii) Though I can not find his bio (specifically name of his parents), his Spanish name indicates last name for his father and mother was Sanz and Jordá, respectively.  See Spanish naming customs

In Spanish, "y" and "i" are pronounced the same.
(iii) In a photo caption (but not in text), the NYT report says Bishop Bai Cave is near Lankou village 福建省宁德市蕉城区飞鸾镇 岚口村.

(d) "Not far from Bishop Guo's cathedral is Shangwan Village [福安市溪潭镇] 上湾村, the burial site of a Catholic priest named Miu Zishan 缪子山（若瑟）神父 who was persecuted by Communist zealots in the 1960s and died shortly after."
