Will Parker, Thomas Grove and Caitlin Ostroff, How a Skyscraper Got NYC Mayor in Trouble; Turkish officials asked Eric Adams to clear a path for the opening of a troubled tower. Wall Street Journal, Oct 8, 2024, at page A1.

Note:
(a)
(i) On September 25, 2024, Mayor Eric Adams of New York City was indicted. The indictment described the bribes )not money per se, but Turkish Airlines tickets and hotel stays) he accepted from Turkish government, but did not say why. This report shed light on the why.
(ii) You need not read the entire report; just a few paragraphs suffice (to get the idea).
(iii) The building at issue is Turkish House.

(b) The accusation against former Mayor 柯文哲 of City of Taipei is similar (but he has not been charged yet; that is why I am dissatisfied with criminal system in Taiwan: in the US, a person can be held as a pretrial detainee, but only after he is charged): Seemingly in exchange for bribes, he pressed city employees to give a pass to the building of 京華城 in violation of construction laws and regulations. In addition, 柯文哲 might have embezzled bundles of money, including small donations (by his supporters) to his presidential campaign which ended in January 2024 for whose missing he blamed an accounting firm. In the same period at issue, 柯's wife deposited large sums of cash in person at the banks or via ATMs, to their children's bank accounts.
