Jerry A. DiColo, Nvidia Readies Graphics Chip to Challenge AMD. Wall Street
Journal, Mar. 25, 2010.
http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748703312504575142061503093710.html
(a) Paragraph 6: "But in building a chip to do more than process video or
edit movies, Nvidia's launch has lagged behind the release of AMD's newest
chips.
(b) Paragraphs 8 and 9:
"Despite AMD's early lead, delays at chip manufacturers offered Nvidia a
reprieve from a drop in market share * * *
"'Both companies were forced to sell more of their last-generation stuff, so
AMD wasn't able to get the benefit of the great new stuff they had,' said
Jon Peddie, who tracks the field.
My comment:
(a) Paragraph 6 does not seem to blame chip foundry or foundries but instead
blame the designer.
(b) With regard to graphic process unit (GPU), both Nvidia and AMD use TSMC.
But it is unclear whether they use TSMC exclusively. A foundry such as TSMC
is at no fault?
(c) But see

cores than expected. DigiTimes (Taipei), Mar. 22, 2010.

--------------Separately
Andrew Parker, Huawei plays long game to win trust and business in US; Chinese telecoms is using small deals to counter American security fears..
Financial Times (FT), Mar. 16, 2010.
http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/c82bc106-309c-11df-a24b-00144feabdc0.html
My comment:
(a) FT changes web view policy again. Now it requires everybody to register,
and allows a non-subscriber ten reports in a 30-day period.
(b) This report is not ground breaking. Rather it said (i) there is not much
room for Huawei, having achieved the second place, to grow worldwide, and (
ii) American companies are distrustful, unsure if a Chinese high-tech
product has a Trojan horse embedded in it.
