My comment:
(a) The report states, in the third paragraph from the bottom, that "纽约时
报》说，美军曾经在声明中表示过，乙支自由卫士军演旨在改善美韩同盟对韩国的联防
能力以及对潜在挑衅的反应能力。"

I was surprised, because I had not read anything about this exercise in the
newspaper. I searched its web site, and found nothing. Finally I found the
article, which is however scheduled for publication TOMORROW. VOA is
surprisingly efficient.

(b) Chinese should not mind the second paragraph from the bottom of the VOA
report: "有分析人士说，目前中国军力无法匹敌美国。根据军方消息来源，截至今年1
月，美国海军拥有11艘核动力航母，而中国为空白。位于加拿大的《汉和防务评论月刊
》总编辑平可夫也对美国之音记者表示，美中军事力量对比悬殊；如果说美方为'博士'
水平的话，中方仅为'高中毕业。'" It is just a commentary.

My comment: Please read only the third paragraph from the bottom, which
includes this sentence: "There's talk of a strategic relationship. Senior
meetings on formalizing a military relationship are expected this year."

My comment:
(a) Please read paragraphs 1 and 2 at least.
(b) Take a look at the graphic. The huge trade gap (in merchandise) explains
why Americans are upset with Chinese but not Japanese or Taiwanese.
