Jamil Anderlini, Murder Claims and Suspension Rock Beijing; Poison allegations; The purge of Bo Xilai and arrest of his wife sent shockwaves through the party. Financial Times, Apr 11, 2012 (page 3).

Quote:

(a) "People familiar with the matter said Ms Gu had been suffering from depression and paranoia and had sought medical attention in recent years, which had left her unable to do any kind of business.

"These people say she had been the subject of a corruption investigation in recent years that was partly aimed at applying political pressure to her husband

(b) "He [Wang Lijun] claimed that he had stumbled across evidence that Heywood had been poisoned on Ms Gu’s orders and that he fell out with Mr Bo when he tried to confront him with the evidence.

"People involved in investigating Mr Wang’s claims say his explanation of why he fell out with Mr Bo is highly implausible.

"Mr Wang was in charge of the Chongqing police when Heywood died and the alleged cover-up occurred. He owed his career and his position in the Communist party almost entirely to Mr Bo.

"It is very unlikely that lower-level police officers would have covered up the suspicious death of a foreigner without being told to do so by Mr Wang, according to people familiar with China’s security apparatus.

(c) "The suggestion that Mr Wang would have been outraged enough to confront his patron over an alleged murder that implicated members of the Bo family is dubious, according to people familiar with Mr Wang’s claims.

"It is unclear exactly why the two men had a falling out, but some political analysts have surmised that Mr Bo’s political enemies were trying to undermine him by launching an internal party investigation into Mr Wang, who fled to the US consulate when he realised Mr Bo would not protect him.

"Many people who met Heywood in China, where he had lived since the early 1990s, say they suspected he may have been working at least part-time for Britain’s intelligence services. His main declared job was as a part-time consultant for the Aston Martin dealership in Beijing.

My comment:
(a) There is no need to eread the rest of the report, which demands sign-in.
(b) Ms Gu Kailai's mental illness "had left her unable to do any kind of business." This refutes the foundation of Mr Wang's accusation, that business frictions brought about Neil Heywood's murder.
(c) To cast aspersions on Mr Heywood for somehow linked to British intelligence is unethical. No evidence has surfaced. Besides, to defame when the objects can not respond (as in the Bos, and Heywood who is dead) is unkind.
