(China accounts for about a fifth of the world’s production of tomato paste and is also the world’s biggest tomato paste exporter; China gets most of its tomato paste from tomatoes grown on farms in Xinjiang which is experiencing one of the worst dry spells and halving production; It turns out the US imports only tiny amounts of China’s tomato paste: California is the world’s largest tomato-paste producer, accounting for about a third of global output as well as 96% of US output; China also appears to be relatively insulated from the shortage, in that the nation doesn’t consume much of it: more than 90% of Xinjiang’s tomato-paste production is destined for export)
Note: In Terms of tomato paste, China is world's largest EXPORTER but California is world's largest PRODUCER. Clear now? |
