My comment:
(a) China's populations is sixty times of Taiwan's. So, when BBC says a
million took part in the examination for public servants, it was not too
many, considering 600,000 this year in Taiwan.
(b) Well, it is not easy to return to the motherland. On the other hand, the
unemployment rate in US hovers around 10%.
