My comment: Whether Chinese are big spenders or not, tourists are tourists, who are, and should be, always welcome. Boston has many tourists, and I treat them respectively. A couple of months back, I gave three women (possibly a mother and two adult daughters; fluent English; did not know they were from other parts of US or UK or Ireland) a direction, and a daughter persisted in giving me a dollar. I bowed and repeatedly declined.
