Missile defense  | Star War 2: Attack of the Drones; Mulling a cheaper, better way to shoot down enemy missiles. Economist, May 17, 2014

(“Boost phase” missile defense--shooting down the missile immediately after it is launched--has many advantages, chiefly not having to deal with decoys. Ronald Reagan proposed Star War: “armed satellite orbiting above a hostile nations’ launchpads. It costs a packet, didn’t work and was scrapped in the 1990s. But some experts say the moment has arrived for a sequel: high-altitude drones. Lacking sophisticated radar and anti-aircraft batteries, North Korea’s arsenal of ballistic missiles could probably be countered if as few as three drones were suitably stationed at all times. An American Global Hawk drone, which can fly uninterrupted for 30 hours, held 18km above nearby international waters,” would be enough. Iran, bigger than North Korea, would be problematic; such an approach would fail against really big countries like China and Russia)

My comment: There is no need to read the rest.
