Tom Mitchell, Comac’s C919 a Twist on 1960s Technology. Financial Times, Nov 12, 2014.

Quote:

"the C919 project is essentially a 21st century twist on technology that has been around since the 1960s. 'Boeing’s new 787 with composite materials is a new type of aircraft,; says Philip Carmichael, a former McDonnell Douglas executive with much experience in China’s aviation industry. 'In the case of the C919 it’s basically structural aluminium.'

"When Taiwan’s military faced a similar challenge with its indigenous jet fighter project in the 1990s, it was able – as a US ally – to take short-cuts by poaching engineers by the dozen from US defence contractor General Dynamics. State-owned Comac does not have that luxury.

My comment: Quotation 1 is to explain the title. And quotation 2 is interesting, about Taiwan. There is no need to read the rest, though a reader need not register.
