(1) Stanley Reed and Clifford Krauss, 以色列巨型气田或为中东和平带来新转机. 纽约时报中文网, Dec 15, 2014
cn.nytimes.com/world/20141215/c15israel/

, which is translated from

Stanley Reed and Clifford Krauss, Israel’s Gas Offers Lifeline for Peace. New York Times, Dec 15, 2014.

Quote:

"Noble Energy, which has a taste for risky exploration in unlikely places like the Falkland Islands and Nicaragua, started exploring here in the late 1990s. The platform was built in Corpus Christi, Tex, and transported by boat to its present site.

"Half of Israel’s electric power now comes from the natural gas that flows through Tamar

"While Israel’s gas consumption is growing fast, the domestic market is not large enough to fully tap Tamar’s potential, much less develop a much larger field called Leviathan.

My comment: The quotations are the only things new. But this report fails to explain why natural gas will help ease tension between Israel and Arabic neighbors. Does Israel sell the gas to neighbors at a discount, compared to the world market?

(2) Eran Azran with Reuters material, Major New Gas Find off Israel’s Mediterranean Coast; Royee field could be Israel’s third largest and create competition for Noble-Delek monopoly. Tel Aviv: Haaretz, Dec 14, 2014.
www.haaretz.com/business/.premium-1.631762

Quote:

"A new natural gas field off Israel’s Mediterranean coast may hold about 3.2 trillion cubic feet of gas, about one third the size of the giant Tamar field

"the Royee prospect, located about 150 kilometers (93 miles) offshore Israel and close to its maritime borders with Cyprus and Egypt, would be the third-largest discovered in Israeli waters and the fourth-largest in the Mediterranean Basin

"Royee and another field called Neta alongside it are named after two of geologist Eitan Eisenberg’s grandchildren

"The Royee field is the first major one in which Delek [Group; an Israeli company based in northern suburb of Tel Aviv] and Noble [Energy] have no stake [both are the lead partners in Leviathan and Tamar].

My comment: There is no need to read the rest of this report.

fortune.com/2014/12/12/the-link-between-israel-and-americas-natural-gas-boom/
("For most of its history, Israelis have viewed energy as a source of vulnerability. * * * Just 10 years ago, Israel imported almost all of its energy, generating 60% of its electricity with imported coal and using some Egyptian natural gas that passed through the Sinai via a pipeline")

My comment: There is no need to read the rest.
