(2) Scott Murdoch, US Keeps Hard Line on China’s Spratly Islands Territory Claim. The Australian, May 15, 2015 (available now

seven consecutive paragraphs:
"The Chinese government said it would retaliate if US craft entered closer waters around the islands known as Nansha in China.
"Foreign Ministry spokesman Hua Chunying said the Chinese government would not back down in its sovereign ownership claims over the uninhabitable islands.
“ 'Do you think we would support that move (to send US ships and planes)? We are severely concerned about the remarks made by the American side,' Ms Hua said.
"The official transcript later published in English toned down the comments and called for the US government to 'clarify' its decision to potentially send in aircraft.
“ 'The Chinese side advocates the freedom of navigation in the South China Sea, yet the freedom definitely does not mean that foreign military vessels and aircraft can enter one country’s territorial waters and airspace at will,' she said.
“ 'China will stay firm in safeguarding territorial sovereignty. We urge parties concerned to be discreet in words and actions, avoid taking any risky and provocative actions and safeguard regional peace and stability.'
"However, the US said it would not be swayed by China’s threat of potential retaliation.

* Mr Murdock is reporting from Beijing. Presumably he was at the Beijing press conference.
* There is no need to read the rest of The Australian report.
