Low Salaries for Beijing Doctors

The following are from official media of China.

(a) Li Jiabao, Family doctors prescribed. China Daily, July 19, 2010.

"Beijing has established a total of 351 community health service centers and
2,900 community health service stations. They are staffed by 26,000 medical
workers. The community centers have been established since the capital
started its community medical reforms in 2006.

"The volume of people visiting community health service centers and stations
has increased three-fold, to 60,000 patients.

"Statistics from the Beijing Municipal Health Bureau show that, in 2009, the
average salary of community medical workers was 42,000 yuan a year, the
same as the average in 2006.

"In comparison, the average worker's salary at non-private sector
enterprises in the capital made 58,140 yuan last year.

My comment: It is unclear what "medical workers" mean in this report. Does
that include janitors, clerks? But the entire report talks about "doctors."

(b) Fear not. paragraph 5 identified the source: Beijing Times.* A similar
source had two reports:

My comment: It is unambiguous, after comparing the preceding two reports,
that China Daily was talking about DOCTORS. The next may discuss city
employees in healthcare OTHER THAN doctors.
