Two reports in chronological order.

(1) Tony Capaccio, Chinese Missiles Could Close U.S. Bases in Attack, Report Says. Bloomberg, Nov. 11, 2010.
http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2010-11-11/chinese-missiles-have-ability-to-close-u-s-air-bases-in-asia-report-says.html

Note:
(a) Misawa Air Base
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Misawa_Air_Base
(三沢飛行場; a United States military facility; in [City of] Misawa, Aomori Prefecture)
(b) Yokota Air Base
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yokota_Air_Base
(横田空軍基地; a United States Air Force base; west of Tokyo)

(2) The Chinese Plan To Crush American Power In Korea. Strategy Page, Nov. 15, 2010.
http://www.strategypage.com/htmw/htart/articles/20101115.aspx
("China indicates that it will assume control in the north if that [collapse of N Korea] happens. South Korea believes it should move north to deal with a collapse and this plan is becoming a contentious issue with China")

--------------------------Separately
(1) U.S. Nuclear-Powered Sub Arrives in Busan. Chosum Ilbo, Nov. 16, 2010 (available now).
http://english.chosun.com/site/data/html_dir/2010/11/15/2010111500352.html
(USS Hawaii, of Virginia-class)

BBC Chinese, Nov. 15, 2010.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/zhongwen/simp/china/2010/11/101115_clinton_taiwan.shtml

My comment:
(a) Paying one's way to a lecture is not uncommon in US, especially considering the fact that former president Bill Clinton came to Taiwan as a paid quest.
(b) The above quote is hard to comprehend. There is no transcript of the speech, whose publication is unlikely now that the  private Taiwanese host--whoever it is--paid a handsome sum of honorarium to Mr. Clinton.

Luckily, a report disabuses us.

Flora Wang, Clinton lauds Ma in flying visit. Taipei Times, Nov. 15, 2010.
http://www.taipeitimes.com/News/front/archives/2010/11/15/2003488550

VOA Chinese, Nov. 15, 2010.
http://www.voanews.com/chinese/news/20101115-President-Clinton-in-Taiwan-108161994.html

My comment:
(a) The report quotes Mr. Clinton as saying in Engish: "charge your own course and find your own way to your relationship with mainland China."

What is "charge" a course?

The other report I can find on Mr. Clinton's visit ti Taiwan has the same quote, but has "chart" instead, which I believe is correct. That report also raise a question about what he meant in one sentence (due to lack of context).

Jenny W Hsu, Cross-strait detente looks 'pretty amazing' : Clinton. Central News Agency, Nov. 15, 2010.
http://focustaiwan.tw/ShowNews/WebNews_Detail.aspx?Type=aIPL&ID=201011150001
("'I think it is important for every country to maintain and, whenever possible, to increase its economic diversity and its diversity in business partners,' he added")

VOA Chinese, Nov. 15, 2010.
http://www.voanews.com/chinese/news/20101115-India-China-Relations-108148359.html
