Liz Alderman, Dutch Confront the Euro Crisis; The jobless rate creeps up, especially for the young. New York Times, May 2, 2012.

("the famously prudent but prosperous Dutch")

Note:
(a) probity (n; Latin probitat-, probitas, from probus honest — more at PROVE):
"adherence to the highest principles and ideals"

(b) Heineken International

(founded in 1864 by Gerard Adriaan Heineken in Amsterdam)
(c) The report says "the Netherlands recently slipped into its second recession in three years."

The Netherlands has not released its GDP data for 1Q12, but its GDP growth rates for 3Q11 and 4Q11 were -0.4% and -0.6%, respectively, according to OECD StatExtracts (select the third item "Gross domestic prodyct (quarterly)" in the left column).

The two numbers are quarter-on-quarter, annualized.

(d) Despite the subtitle, the report also reminds us the Netherlands is not in dire straits: "Dutch unemployment crept to 5.9 percent in the fourth quarter."
(e) The report mentions "a make-do job."

make-do (adj): "MAKESHIFT"

The latter means "temporary."
