What do you mean? If you want to pass through Taiwan, I will have to check.

A few years ago, A Chinese asked if he needed a visa to pass through Taiwan's airport, I called Coordination Council and a visa officer said no. But I did not ask what would happen if the transit include leaving the airport. I assume a hotel is outside an airport.

There is no problem to obtain a visa from Taiwan. Naturally you will have to pay a fee.

But the main problem you will encounter: if you transit at Taiwan, will China require you to get a permit from China on your way OUT? The permit that a China's citizen must get when visiting Taiwan.

不过如果我决定从香港经停台北飞旧金山的话，我得准备一张港澳通行证

That is my point of my PREVIOUS posting. On your way out (whether via Hong Kong or directly through Taiwan), if your airline ticket show you are going to pass through Taiwan and have a layover for 14 hours, you have to find out if China require 赴台证. The visa to Taiwan is not affixed to your passport, so that is not a problem.

That is my point of my PREVIOUS posting.
