The Illusion of Chinese Power. Feb 7, 2014.
www.strategypage.com/htmw/htsurf/articles/20140207.aspx

Quote:

"Naval aviation has made great strides, although against the US it would still largely provide target practices.

"China still has a long way to go when it comes to training[,] and the capabilities of many of their weapons are suspect, if only because they are largely untried in combat.

My comment: Of course we can not believe everything we read.
(a) The deniable truth is China's navy and air force have not been tested, perhaps since the founding of the nation (1949)--the last time army went to war was with Vietnam in 1979.
(b) Back in Taiwan, government never ceases reminded us China was militarily powerful. We came to believe, when Taiwan was gradually democratized, that it was a pretense by the government to justify imposition and continuance of four-decade martial rule. Only recently did American commentators disclose that China's ability to project force has been negligible, so much so that Taiwan invasion was impossible.

How XBox Tech Protects The Siberian Tiger. Feb 6, 2014

("For over two decades infrared (heat) detecting sensors have been used by South Korea but these cannot distinguish between a large animal (the [Korea] DMZ is full of deer, bears and tigers) and people. Since troops will sometimes fire on suspected infiltrators, there is always the danger that a rare Siberian Tiger or Asian Black Bear will be killed instead. South Korea software engineers found a way to combine thermal sensors and [Microsoft] Kinect to produce a device that is nearly always right in distinguishing between large animals and people")

The Indian Tragedy. Feb 6, 2014
www.strategypage.com/htmw/htlead/articles/20140206.aspx
("Since its founding India has had to import most of its weapons. Efforts to change this have failed so far, mainly because of corruption and unwillingness to tolerate competitive and efficient defense industries. The corruption that has been pervasive in India for thousands of years and makes imported weapons more lucrative to bribe-friendly government officials involved than locally made stuff")

Note: India was independent from UK in 1947. But there is a shade of difference:

India Gives The T-50 A Bad Review. Jan 30, 2014.
strategypage.com/htmw/htmurph/articles/20140130.aspx

Quote:

"Indian Air Force officers have had an opportunity to check out a prototype of the new Russian '5th generation' T-50 (or PAK-FA). This is the Russian answer to the US F-22 and according to the Indians, who have contributed $6 billion to development of the T-50, the Russian aircraft is in big trouble. The Indian officers noted that the T-50 as it is currently put together is unreliable. The Russian radar, which promised so much has delivered, according to the Indians, insufficient performance. The Indians also noted that the T-50s stealth features were unsatisfactory.

"The T-50 is not meant to be a direct rival for the F-22 because the Russian aircraft is not as stealthy. But if the maneuverability and advanced electronics live up to the promises, the aircraft would be more than a match for every fighter out there except the F-22. * * *For the moment the T-50 and the Chinese J-20 are the only potential competitors for the F-22 that are in development.

"There are now five T-50 prototypes in operation. The T-50 flew for the first time in January 2010.

"The Russians want to sell their 'Fifth Generation Fighter' (which they admit is not true 5th Gen) to India and other foreign customers.
