VOA Chinese, Jan 8, 2015
www.voachinese.com/content/us-ch ... 150108/2590950.html
(国务院发言人莎琪: 美国公民、自由亚洲电台维吾尔族记者肖赫来提[.吾叙尔] 的三个兄弟因为他对新疆问题的报道而遭到当局报复)

Note:
(a) The VOA report cites

Simon Denyer, China Uses Long-Range Intimidation of US Reporter to Suppress Xinjiang Coverage. Washington Post, Jan 8, 2015
www.washingtonpost.com/world/chi ... e2f4c5ab_story.html

three consecutive paragraphs:

"The Chinese government has imprisoned the three brothers of a Washington-based reporter for Radio Free Asia, apparently intensifying its repression of free speech and reporting on its troubled province of Xinjiang.

"Ethnic Uighur journalist Shohret Hoshur left China in 1994, after he ran into trouble with the authorities for his reporting. He has since become a US citizen and a mainstay of Radio Free Asia’s coverage of Xinjiang * * *

"According to a statement from RFA supplied to the Committee to Protect Journalists, the harassment of Hoshur’s family started in 2009 after he reported on a Uighur torture victim

(b) Judging from the context, "Ethnic Uighur journalist Shohret Hoshur left China in 1994, after he ran into trouble with the authorities for his reporting" suggests "his reporting" in Xinjiang or China. And it is confirmed.

Matthew Pennington, Targeting Family, China Pressures US-Based Uighur Journalist. Associated Press, Jan 8, 2013 ("6:13 PM ET (for Eastern Time))
abcnews.go.com/Politics/wireStory/targeting-family-china-pressures-us-based-uighur-journalist-28098458
("Journalist Shohret Hoshur left China 20 years ago, fearing for his safety after authorities branded him a separatist for his critical coverage of the plight of his fellow ethnic Uighurs. * * * The State Department on Thursday voiced deep concern")

There is no need to read the rest of either report of Washington Post and AP.

---------------------Separately
Teng Biao, China’s Empty Promise of Rule by Law. Washington Post, Dec 28, 2014.

Note:
(a) The introduction in the essay: "Teng Biao is a human rights lawyer and a visiting fellow at Harvard Law School"
(b) The search results of Washington Post website summarizes the essay this way:

It follows party rule, not rule of law.
(c) There is no need to read the essay, for we can guess the content.
