("Family and Individual INcome[which is the sectional heading]  The high labor force participation rate of Filipino Americans contributes to a higher median family income ($42,600) in 1989 than that of Asian Americans ($41,600) and whites ($35,100) (Barringer and Liu 1994: 76). However, per capita income among Filipinos ($13,600) is lower than for Asian Americans ($13,800) and all Americans ($14,100) (US Bureau of Census 1993: 9). This discrepancy can be attributed to Filipino American families having more working members on average than other families and to their greater prevalence of extended family households that result in their higher family income. A far greater proportion of Filipino families (30 percent) have three or more workers compared to Asian Americans (20 percent) and all American families (13 percent) that may be necessitated by their lower individual incomes. Another factor in the higher median family income of Filipino Americans that needs to be considered is that a majority of them resides in California where income levels (and the cost of living) are higher than for the country as a whole")
