(3) Ye Xie and Gabrielle Coppola with Belinda and Kana Nishizawa, Hi, I'm Doug, and I Crashed the Chinese Stock Market.
http://www.bloomberg.com/news/ar ... k-market-scapegoats
("The battle between the invisible hand of the market and the iron fist of the government creates confusion and chaos, making China the biggest threat to the global economy and financial markets. 'They don’t quite get how to work with these markets, don’t know what they’re doing—that view is already out there,' says Nicholas Field, emerging-markets strategist at money manager Schroders in London. 'It’s one of the reasons why global markets have sold off' ")

Note:
(a) summary underneath the title in print: Xi Jinping’s government searches for scapegoats as stock plunge
(b) There is no need to read the rest, which is familiar to us.

(4) Pablo Rosendo González, Argentina’s Upside Down Oil Policy.
http://www.bloomberg.com/news/ar ... a-different-drummer

Quote:

"Oil has plummeted below $39 a barrel in the US. But despite the price bloodbath in global energy markets, it fetches nearly twice that amount in Argentina -- home to some of the most expensive crude in the world. * * * for the simple reason the government wants it that way.

"In most of the developing world, governments subsidize fuel prices. In Argentina, motorists now are subsidizing oil and gas producers. * * * Today, Argentine motorists pay about 40 percent more to fill their tanks than neighbors in Brazil. Yet consumers haven’t kicked up much of a fuss and energy policy is not a major issue in the Presidential election campaign.

The high oil policy lifts "Argentina into second place behind the US as the world’s second-largest shale [oil] producer. Similar incentives are in place for shale gas

My comment:
(a) summary underneath the title in print: The government keeps prices high to encourage domestic produxction.
(b) In print but not online, there is a window showing “$77b” upside down, followed by “Price of a barrel of oil in Argentina.”
(c) There must be oil smugglers who bring oil from outside Argentina in.
