The amount of hemoptysis ranges from streaks in sputum 痰 to massive bleeding (causing death).
The color of the blood is also bright red, coming from bronchial artery 支气管动脉.
The lung receives two blood sources:
(a) venous blood from pulmonary artery 肺动脉 (to be oxidized in a lung), and
(b) arterial blood from bronchial artery.
The former is not enough to supply oxygen or nutrients to a lung.
Lesions 病灶 in tuberculosis erode branches of bronchial arteries, resulting in hemoptysis.
In massive blood loss, angiography of a bronchial artery is done to locate the source, and release emboli to seal the leaky branch of said artery.
