(1) James R Hagerty, Jerry Hirshberg, 1939-2019. Nissan Gured American to Liven up Designs.

("Out of the blue, in 1979, Nissan Motor Co recruited him [a car designer (but not a top one) in General Motors] to set up and run a design shop in San Diego.  The aim was to cultivate ideas far from the fed-office bureaucracy in Japan. Over the next two decades, the outpost helped design the pathfinder, Xterra, Infiniti J30 and other cars. In 1999, he starred in Nissan TV ads.  Though unable to prevent Nissan from becoming known for red ink and boring cars in the 1990s, he experimented with ways to spur innovations. Described in his 1998 book, 'The Creative Priority,; One of his favorites was to hire people with clashing personalities and working styles. He counted on the resulting friction to spark brainstorms")

("His success in revitalizing the maker of Iron City Beer earned Mr Smith a far bigger challenge, saving Pabst Brewing Co. The Milwaukee brewer of Pabst Blue Ribbon beer was in the red and losing market share when he joined in 1981, becoming the fourth chief executive in 13 months, with a mandate to cut costs. 'Our short-term is survival,' he told the New York Times.  There were few signs of the craft-beer boom to come in the 1990s, and the beer industry didn't yet know small could be beautiful. Beer companies were rushing into mergers in hopes of gaining enough scale to compete with Anheuser-Busch Cos, and Miller Brewing Co.  Under Mr Smith, Pabst bought Olympia Brewing Co, but the CEO spent most of his time fending off unwanted bids from suitors including corporate raider Irwin Jacobs, G Heileman Brewing Co and Strol Brewery Co. In early 1875., investor Paul Kalmanovitz prevailed with a $63 million bid/  After briefly owning a small brewery [after the Pabst sale], Mr Smith retired in his mid-50s and enjoyed boating and fishing.
