WASHINGTON -- The U.S. Supreme Court threw the sale of Chrysler LLC to Fiat SpA into uncertainty while it decides whether to hear an appeal of the deal.

The move, disclosed in a one-sentence order by Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, leaves the fate of the auto maker and the Obama administration's historic restructuring of Detroit unsettled for at least one more day.

美国最高法院(Supreme Court)周一裁定推迟克莱斯勒(Chrysler LLC)与菲亚特公司(Fiat SpA, FIATY)的交易。此前，几家印第安纳州退休基金和消费者组织要求法院阻止克莱斯勒将自身出售给菲亚特公司。

克莱斯勒和联邦政府之前警告称，法院推迟批准该交易可能导致克莱斯勒被清盘。克莱斯勒在周日晚间的一份文件中呼吁最高法院拒绝上述动议。克莱斯勒的一位律师在一份法律文件中称，鉴于目前克莱斯勒的资产已没有别的竞购者，如果菲亚特收购交易遇挫，则克莱斯勒只能进入清盘程序，所有利益相关者只能从克莱斯勒的清盘中获得不到8亿美元。

但最高法院在其简短决议中称，将延长上诉法庭确定的暂缓批准交易的时间，直到法院有机会收到并审理交易反对方提出的上诉。

菲亚特此前将6月15日定为交易完成的最后期限。最高法院很可能将交易批准时间推后几个月。
