My comment: Occasionally VOA Chinese made mistakes, particularly in
citations.  This VOA report is almost entirely based on, not Defense News 国
防新闻 as alleged but Navy Times. (I do not know of 全球防务 or 军事论坛, so
I do not check them out.)

The Navy Times report mentions FEL in the middle of the report. I was
puzzled why it had not been spelled out. It turns out that FEL stands for "
free-electron laser."
