Lorraine Luk, FLAT-PANEL REPORT:Strong iPad Demand Boosting Taiwan's Touch
Panel Makers. Dow Jones Newswires, July 15, 2010.
http://online.wsj.com/article/BT-CO-20100715-701963.html

My comment:
(1) Please take a close look at the table (by clicking "Multimedia" in the
left panel) of

David Barboza, Supply Chain for iPhone Highlights Costs in China. New York
Times, July 6, 2010.
http://www.nytimes.com/2010/07/06/technology/06iphone.html?_r=1&scp=3&sq=apple%20samsung&st=cse

Apple consistently refuses to disclose anything about its supply chain.
Analysts tear its products apart to make an educated guess. That is how the
table (in NY Times report) comes about.*

* The Dow Jones report was about iPad, but NY Times focused on iPhone, both
of Apple. However, both iPad and iPhone use touch screens.

I was surprised, upon seeing the table, that almost no Taiwanese company was
in.

(2) The Dow Jones report above identified Wintek and TPK as Taiwanese
companies. They are indeed.

(a) Wintek Corporation 勝華科技
http://www.wintek.com.tw/
(established in 1990)

* There is a "Wintek Corporation" in US, (a) which asserts, "Since 1973,
Wintek has been providing products and services to customers around the
world" and (b) whose address is "427 N 6th Street, Suite C, Lafayette, IN
47901-2211 USA."
http://www.wintek.com/

(b) TPK Touch Solutions Inc. 宸鴻光電科技股份有限公司
http://www.tpk-solutions.com/
(headquarters at Taipei (established in 2003) and Xiamen (established in
2004))

New York Times stated, in the legend of the table, that "TPK Holdings, a
Taiwanese company, is partly owned by Balda, a German company." It is
correct, but Balda is a minority shareholders.
