(b) Note: Taiwan uses "PCF ratio" but US has "PCF ratio": the ratio of calories from Protein, Carbohydrates, and Fat.

(2) The above report is based on raw data coming from Agriculture and Food Agency (AFA), Council of Agriculture (COA), Executive Yuan, Taiwan 行政院農業委員會農糧署.

The 2007 Taiwanese per capita* consumption:

* The "per caput" is used instead, where "caput" is singular (""head" in English) and "capita" is plural ("heads" in English).

(ii)

My comment: The report is mistaken in at least two key aspects:
(a) The pertinent year is 2007, not "去年" (2008); and  
(b) The per capita calorie intake is not "兩千六百七十三大卡" but 2,804.31.

(1) US Department of Agriculture (USDA) presents the website of Mypyramid.gov, which is flexible* about daily calorie intake.

* In contrast to Taiwanese government which tends to be rigid (thanks to an authoritarian streak passed down from the bad old days)

(a) footnote 1 to the Table 1 states,

"Calorie Levels are set across a wide range to accommodate the needs of different individuals. The attached table 'Estimated Daily Calorie Needs' can be used to help assign individuals to the food intake pattern at a particular calorie level.

(b) The attached table at the bottom of the web page indicates, e.g., men of 31-50 can take in daily 2,200 calories (for sedentary lifestyle) or 3,000 (for active lifestyle).

(2) US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the Department of Agriculture (USDA) jointly published Dietary Guidelines for Americans, 2005 (the next edition will be out in 2010).

The guideline is a huge pdf document which is not easily downloaded as a whole (I tried twice this afternoon in vain). Fortunately I found this web page which break down the document into manageable bits.

Chapter 6 is titled "Fat" which recommends "Keep total fat intake between 20 to 35 percent of calories, with most fats coming from sources of polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fatty acids, such as fish, nuts, and vegetable oils."

Again, the guideline is for adult. Immediately following this particular recommendation is one for "Specific Population Groups"--"Children and adolescents" in this case.
