Juan Forero, In Brazil, the 'middle path' helps expand the middle class. Washington Post, Jan. 3, 2010.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/01/02/AR2010010200619.html
("Brazil's $1.3 trillion economy is bigger than those of India and Russia, and its per-capita income is nearly twice that of China")

My comment:
(a) The quote above is the only reference to China. Otherwise, the report talked about a rising Brazil--much like India but has a way to go before catching up with China, in almost every aspect.
(b) CIA World Factbook (2009 edition) indicates:

(i) China:

"GDP (purchasing power parity): $7.992 trillion (2008 est.)
GDP (official exchange rate): $4.327 trillion (2008 est.)
GDP - per capita (PPP): $6,000 (2008 est.)

(ii) Brazil:

"GDP (purchasing power parity): $1.998 trillion (2008 est.)
GDP (official exchange rate): $1.573 trillion (2008 est.)
GDP - per capita (PPP): $10,200 (2008 est.)

(iii) Russia:

"GDP (purchasing power parity): $2.271 trillion (2008 est.)
GDP (official exchange rate): $1.677 trillion (2008 est.)
GDP - per capita (PPP): $16,100 (2008 est.)

(c) Upon reading the quote, I was surprised, for a year or two ago an American acquaintance dismissed Russia by saying that its economy was the size of Brazil, which was (as I checked then) and is confirmed by CIA World Factbook. In other words, the quote was incorrect to the extent Brazil's economy is bigger than that of Russia.
